The Power of the Mind!

by Steven Dobson · 2 comments

In business and in life, your mind is the most powerful asset that you possess. Too often our belief system prevents us from achieving our goals. To overcome this hurdle we need a paradigm shift. We need to replace what we believe with what we know; because if you don’t believe that you can do something you have defeated yourself. If you know that someone has already succeeded at doing what you’re trying to do, there is no reason in the world that you should not be able to do it. All you have to do is what the other person did to get the results that you desire. You just can’t mimic what the other person did, you actually have to learn the skills and use the tools and strategies that the other person used to achieve their success. This is the part that most of us find the hardest to do, yet we want the success without having to put in the work to achieve it.

The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary!

Ask yourself this simple question if you have a job, “Do I get paid before I work or after I complete the work?”

Information Age vs. Industrial Age

Believe it or not, we are now living in the Information Age, but many of us are trying to make money like we’re still living in the Industrial Age. Again, we need a paradigm shift. The Industrial Age taught us the accepted cultural expectation of “going to school to get an education so that you could get a good job.” In the Industrial Age that idea or concept worked fine because there were factories that needed workers or employees to run the equipment or put parts together by hand. As technology developed the workers were replaced by machines in the form of automation, and those big factories that once employed Americans by the millions have been downsized, outsourced, and in most instances relocated to a foreign country. However, we are still going to school to get an education to get a job in a competitive market where fewer jobs exist. We have not transitioned from being an employee or thinking like an employee to realize that we are now in the Information Age, and with the Information Age came new opportunities.

Each of us have enough knowledge and information about a topic that other people will pay for, but because of our way of thinking, we doubt ourselves or the possibility that we know enough about a subject to make it profitable.

We have been stuck in the world of being an employee where we are told what time to come to work, what time to take a lunch break, what time to go home, and when we can take a vacation, that we have killed any idea that we have about being in business for ourselves. We have in fact killed our creative process and without the ability to be creative, you will never find success in anything in life.

Did you know that the lack of information is the number one barrier to wealth? Robert Kiyosaki

In order to change our circumstances we have to change ourselves, and most people are paralyzed by the fear of change. The fear that we live with to a certain extent is created by our life experiences and some would say is only in our minds. If you believe that, then in order to overcome our fears we need to look at them as challenges that we can overcome, and the best way to overcome a challenge is to face it head on.

What we feed our mind is what we eventually become, feed it positive thoughts and information and we become a positive person with a mind full of information. What separates successful people from the rest of us is their ability to take action on the information they learn. Without taking action you become the person with a mind full of useful information that suffers from information overload. The best way to overcome information overload is to release the information that you have stored in your mind by taking action. When we take action we can determine if the information we learned was useful or not, if it was we can build on it and use it in our daily lives, if it was not useful, we file it in our memory and press on.

Here are a few books for recommended reading that will help build on what I have discussed above:

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Accelerated Goal Manifestation by Ian Randall

You can achieve whatever you want in life; you just have to have a dream, a burning desire, be willing to step out of your comfort zone, and the proper mindset (belief in yourself and belief that you can achieve your goals).
